Rewrapping the NDP

I think the main reason people like the NDP and yet vote for the Liberals are these: The NDP is a victim of continued barrage of media reports, sponsored by the Liberals, which suggest that the NDP support is stagnant and therefore doesnt have a chance of forming government. This results in automatic votes for the Liberals because people end up voting for the Libs thinking they'll "waste their vote" if they vote NDP, having succumbed to false propaganda and sponsored polls, "just to get rid of the Cons."

On their part, the NDP has to be a bit more proactive. They have to repackage the party to make it more attractive. Last year's attempt to take the "New" out of NDP--so the party would simply be called "Democrats"--was a good attempt, but I am not sure why it didn't go through.

We all know the word "socialist" has negative connotations in North America. The NDP should retain the spirit of all things socialist in their constitution, literature and handouts, but replace the word "socialist".

For instance, at UBC, the Agriculture Department was facing dwindling student enrolment, and it didnt take that long for them to figure that students were'nt very attracted to pursue careers in agriculture. Their solution was to simply rename the department as "The Department of Applied Biology." Hence students think its cool to take courses called "Applied Biology 301" as opposed to taking agriculture courses. Even though the content is exactly the same.

It's time the NDP also rewrapped itself in modern terminology, fight back Liberal and Conservative propaganda, and form the new government. Time for an Orange Revolution."
